I forget, is a $174 million a lot or just routine for lobbyists?
Lobbyists are just bagmen. To the industry bigwigs 174 mil is just walkin around money, but a good investment. Since 1998, the industry has spent $966.8 million on lobbying. Sounds like a big number, don't it?
But federal (taxpayer funded)subsidies to the oil industry, including tax breaks and subsidies (about 8 billion a year), production subsidies (100 billion a year), and environmental and health costs (500 billion a year)- not to mention the hundred or more billion a year we spend on the military to protect global oil reserves, makes 996 million look like sidewalk spit.
